The European Commission has published the 2024 ageing report. As we have long noted, Irish projections show large increases in pensions expenditure as the population ages. Starting to plan today, including saving excess CT receipts, can help prepare us for these known costs of ageing.

A semi-sad celebration today. We on Irish Fiscal Advisory Council said goodbye (preemptively) to colleague of 7 years Caoimhín Ó Tiománaigh! Off to (nice) pastures new but we will miss him greatly. He has had a huge influence on Irish macro & policy with his multiple papers on how to measure activity.
Macroeconometrics time!
Thanks to the Jaap Abbring 🪐 @jaapabbring.bsky.social and Econometric Journal for the special session with Oscar Jorda and Gert Mester.
Just landed in Belfast - excited that the Royal Economic Society Annual Conference has finally made it here in person! I had been involved in bringing it here and it was all set to go… for Spring 2020! 🤦🏻♂️
March 2024 is only a little delayed in the total history of the RES!
Now the real reason for the trip back to Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
Today my dad and I joined a ceremony Girls' College to officially open the Ciara McMahon science lab. Ciara’s love of science began while at the school & this was a great way to remember her and inspire the next generation.
Absolutely delighted for Clare Lombardelli on her appointment as a Deputy Governor Bank of England.
I look forward to her joining so many other great economist friends and colleagues as a data point in my research 🤣
Personal professional highlight for me on Irish Fiscal Advisory Council - introducing Laura Burke, director general of EPA Ireland to our climate fiscal implications conference. A collision of my world with that of my late sister who was an EPA director. We both got to pay tribute to Ciara. ❤️
Interested in taking a role in assessment and analysis of Irish fiscal policy via Irish Fiscal Advisory Council? We have a vacancy for an ordinary (non-Chair) member which is a great way to feed in to the important work at an exciting time for Ireland:
