🚨 New in People and Nature led by Brian Michael Robert we find that small-scale fisheries do not capture the diversity of micronutrients available in their waters! Fisheries policies should integrate nutritional value to help alleviate malnourishment in coastal communities. doi.org/10.1002/pan3.1…

Probably my biggest ever gesture as an advisor - in just 2 days, spent 6 hours underwater in a 15C lake (with 2C air temp!) so that my student could finish training dives and join a research trip to Belize. Didn't have a dry suit on day 1...

A "crazy" admission - I fully proof read every email I send, usually twice, including the emails I sent to undergraduates in my classes and rejection emails I send to inquiring graduate students. Every inquiry deserves your genuine communication...

I am so sick of reviewers hijacking my papers. Sure, I'll redo all the analyses with the model "you prefer" ...just quickly rewrite 1000s of lines of code and redo every figure for literally no change to results or conclusions...

Check out our new study in PNASNews. 🌈 Aesthetic value is driven by changes in temperature, productivity, habitat and human impacts 🐠 MPAs boost beauty though increasing taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity 🏝️ Tropical countries have the greatest potential benefits

Check out our new paper in GEC showing how ecological traits can be used to rank conservation priorities for fish species within the same IUCN categories. Priorities for threatened species can change importantly based on conservation goals. doi.org/10.1016/j.gecc…
