Today was our first day of SEAD 2024 and students were very excited to get started! The day started off with a brief presentation about SEAD, followed by suturing workshop, a surgery scrub-in and sterility workshop, and finally a hospital tour! #mcgill #mcgillmed #surgery 🏥🩺

After the morning ORs, Dr Evan Wong, the SEAD program chair, gave all of our students an inspiring talk about his path to general surgery and trauma! Students then headed over to the MGH to practice their Laparoscopic Surgical skills by completing a set of tasks on the simulators

Today, our students had a cardiac surgery workshop in the afternoon. SEAD students got to practice their cardiac ultrasound skills, learned how to place a central line, practice some more suturing, and learned the basics of extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)

Today, the SEAD students had an Orthopedic surgery talk and workshop in the afternoon led by Dr. Hamdy. He presented the orthopedic surgery program at McGill. SEAD students learned the basic principles of casting and they got the chance to practice on each other! #mcgill #surgery

Early this morning, our SEAD students met with Dr. Del Maestro at the Montreal Neurological Institute where he gave them a historical tour of the hospital! He then took our students to his lab where they got to perform brain and spine surgery using hyper realistic simulators!

Today, SEAD students had a Vascular Surgery talk led by Dr. Gill, Dr. Kinio (R5), and Dr. Gold (R2). Then, they got to apply their suturing skills in the context of vascular surgery. They learned how to do a blood vessel anastomosis and how to suture a lacerated artery! #mcgill

Today, SEAD students had a Urologic Surgery talk and workshop led by Dr. Singh and Dr. Bouhadana (R2). They learned how to do a cystoscopy and how to put a Foley catheter using mannequins and simulators! They also got to try robotic surgery using the Simbionix simulator!
