This #FossilFriday I'm celebrating the newly described #Ediacaran organism #Mamsetia manunis. Finding this specimen was easily the most exciting discovery I've ever made in the field: you don't often find the oldest muscular organism known to science! 😃 (1/4)

This #FossilFriday: Kimberella, a 555 million year old (#Ediacaran) organism from Russia and Australia. Recent work suggests it was an early #mollusc, so could be a relative of modern snails. They are sometimes found near scratch marks, thought to be made by their feeding.

Yes, I've shared this image before - and I'll share it again! Easily the most majestic #trilobite I've ever held in my own hands, this remarkable 34 cm long Paradoxides davidis comes from Middle #Cambrian rocks at Manuels River, #Newfoundland, #Canada. #TrilobiteTuesday

Seems it’s #nationalfossilday! Here are two important fossils I’ve studied in recent years: #Mamsetia (the world’s oldest known muscular organism) and #Fractofusus (the most common #Ediacaran fossil in #Newfoundland). I can’t describe the joy this work has given me. ❤️‍🔥

I had to report an abandoned car yesterday, just got a phone call and I finally got to say the thing! "Is this Mr McKean?" "Actually, it's Dr McKean" "Sir, this is the police about the report you made" "Ohhh"

Officially Dr McKean... got the paperwork and everything 😁 It was great heading back to Newfoundland to attend my PhD graduation Memorial University, even better that my family and @DMcEdiacaran could attend! Thank you to everyone I met during my PhD, couldn't have done it without you!

This #FossilFriday, let's go to the #Cambrian aged Burgess Shale in #Canada for one of my favorite #arthropods, #Waptia fieldensis. They're rarely more than 6 cm long, but they show remarkable preservation: guts, eyes, antennae, even - very rarely- eggs! (shorturl.at/HGk1e)
