Interesting, and funny to argue this wouldn’t be a worthy tradeoff, but I think a much better answer is that we haven’t:

I agree with the spirit of this, but I’m skeptical that backlash to 6% inflation (instead of 9%) would have been especially muted—particularly if unemployment was far worse, growth was lower, etc.
