Sometimes it can be hard to stay optimistic about preventing violence against women. But this violence is preventable, and at times like this communities can come together to create change. Here’s how to have a meaningful #16days of Activism: tinyurl.com/2t3tmc8t

‘You are tired all the time, trying to figure out where to go next...’ For the past five years, we consulted with women to gain an overview of their experiences. We contributed a summary to the Council To Homeless Persons journal, Parity. mcauley.org.au/story/losing/

In advocating for approaches where more women can stay home safely after family violence, we're aware that the concept of ‘home’ can be problematic. Lita* has given a moving perspective on how the right help can transform the concept of home. mcauley.org.au/story/turning-…

Violence against women is a men's issue. It's not about a few 'bad seeds' - this is happening in every town, city, and neighbourhood in the country. We spoke to The Age about this national crisis: tinyurl.com/26y7nb7n

Violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women & children. It's estimated 7,690 women are returning to perpetrators each year because they have nowhere to live. The govt must #BuildSocialHousing at a greater scale abc.net.au/news/2024-04-3…

Today's cartoon in The Age by artist Cathy Wilcox is a fantastic illustration for Safe at Home. Our system sees victim-survivors taking the burden of leaving a violent home. Safe at Home will support women and children to remain safely in their homes where it is safe to do so.

It's been a devastating month for victim-survivors and those working to stop violence against women. The Royal Commission laid the groundwork for what must come next –comprehensive action to prevent and disrupt the cycle of violence at every opportunity. respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/lasting-change…

To stop women leaving violence into homelessness, support needs to include the person using violence. A Safe at Home approach ensures that the perpetrator is held accountable and kept in view, but also supports them to seek help and change their behaviour theage.com.au/politics/victo…

Thousands of women are being forced into homelessness after escaping violence. Many are single mothers with no rental history or income, entering an impossibly competitive rental market. We must act to ensure affordable housing for women leaving violence. abc.net.au/news/2024-05-2…

"It's hard enough for people on average and middle incomes to keep up with rent increases, it's even tougher for people on the lowest. People are having to ... move back in with their parents, crash on the couch of friends, sleep in their cars." #EverybodysHome Maiy Azize

The #HousingCrisis is getting worse - more people, including workers, are turning to homelessness services, and many are stuck in homelessness for longer. We need a plan to end Australia's social housing shortfall. #BuildSocialHousing! theguardian.com/society/2024/d…
