The fascination with killing players on the first few days of preseason blows my mind. Dramatically increasing the risk of losing players through injury, hurting ability to learn playing style and keep best players available. Not rooted in logic.

Running kids into the ground in an attempt to toughen them up doesn’t work. It just doesn’t. What it does do is increase their chances of getting injured, increases their stress, decreases their level of enjoyment, and decreases your chances of properly developing your team.

Had 3 former players, club team & Sporting CT WPSL teammates, all from the same hometown (!), go pro this week. Not bad for Connecticut!

Vermont Green. Champions. More than that. They are a model of what an authentic connection between team, town, and greater mission can look like. An inspiration for all who care about the growth of the game in America 🏆 🌲 💚

Imagine if USA soccer had a system where players like Max Kissel could win their way up to USA soccer division 1 through their play on the field in a promotion/relegation system... Could you imagine all of the great stories? #ProRelforUSA

IMO: Players can learn more & better when not focusing on a position, but rather the responsibilities associated with their place on the field/in relation to others (teammates & opponents), in & out of possession. Personally, I can’t stand positional play. Tiffany Weimer 😁

Too many coaches waste training time explaining new drills every week. It adds external load — players spend brainpower figuring out rules, not solving the game. We flipped it: fewer core activities, more adaptation. 🧵

Telling young players.. “Never in the middle..” “Only to the outside..” Does more damage than having a goal scored against you by playing through the middle space.

College Freshmen: It’s not a question of IF you’re going to get homesick and feel sad, it’s a Question of WHEN it’s going to hit you. And it’s OK! Feel sad, it will pass Just remember, You’re doing what your parents raised you to do. To go off on your own and live your life.

One of the greatest accomplishments in sports ever is Tiger Woods winning 3 consecutive US Jr Am’s followed by 3 US Am’s.

"This generation lost a Copa America, couldn't advance in the group stage in their backyard. Lost to Canada in back to back games. Lost to Panama in three straight games, all in their backyard." Taylor Twellman: This USMNT generation has lost the plot.

For competitors, I think “it’s just a result“ is more appropriate than “it’s just a game“. For many, the game means an awful lot. You can put everything into a game & not get a result; it’s OK to be disappointed. But don’t diminish the importance some feel for their games.
