The UK is investing in the Gaza ceasefire. UK-funded medicines have reached Gaza today thanks to Jordanian helicopters. Now we’re pledging further essential aid. We will keep pushing for all hostages to be released and aid to reach those in need.

I’m delighted that members of UK ISAR and UK-Med are among the first recipients of the new Humanitarian Medal. A vital part of the UK’s response to conflict and climate-fuelled crises in Libya, Morocco and Gaza, their efforts helped save lives and prevent suffering.

I welcome the release of eight hostages today. They have been through an unthinkable ordeal after almost 15 months in captivity. This ceasefire marks a critical moment for the Middle East and the importance of implementing this deal in full cannot be overstated.

Essential education for Palestinian children in East Jerusalem is provided by UNRWA. The Israeli order to close its schools and the immediate evacuation of the Kalandia Training Centre is deeply worrying. Children’s access to education must continue uninterrupted.

Humanitarian aid should never be contingent on a ceasefire or used as a political tool. France, Germany and the UK express deep concern at Israel's halt on aid to Gaza and urge it to lift restrictions. The ceasefire must be sustained, all hostages released and aid resumed.

Civilians in Gaza are living in catastrophic conditions. We welcome the Arab initiative and its commitment to a long-term political solution. Hamas must not govern Gaza. With France, Germany and Italy, the UK welcomes the reconstruction initiative from Arab leaders.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is critical. For two weeks, Israel‘s blockade of aid has impeded access to food, water, and healthcare: now only 10% of people have access to safe drinking water. Israel must lift aid restrictions immediately to prevent further suffering.

The UN did not reach its conclusion lightly that an Israeli tank hit a United Nations building last week. We understand the IDF has stopped accepting deconfliction requests from aid workers. This is unacceptable. Returning to the ceasefire could free the hostages and end this bloodshed.
