On this Women’s Day, we are encouraging all South Africans to reflect on the various socio-economic challenges South African women are facing. Our organisation is determined to be part of the solution enabling gender equality.

We are live from the Mayibuye Woman’s Day event. Here are some of the comments and questions coming out of the women gathered here: “How are we going to train our young girls to be leaders of the future. I request that all Mayibuye leaders go through a leadership workshop”.

“I have a concern from a women’s perspective in terms of our civil marriage act. There should be an even share split between the number of woman a man chooses to marry”.

“iAfrika Mayibuye has arrived…I have three burning questions. What policies will Afrika Mayibuye propose to address woman’s rights and interests? What strategies will define woman’s healthcare needs. How will we put woman’s interest first?”

“It is a pleasure for us to be here. I trust we will return back our country. Can we allow God to be our guide and protector. Where I live I adopted a community centre. We are suppressed by the ANC. We need help with protecting older people from being thrown out of work”

The Mayibuye Women’s League formation is taking shape.

“I want to speak to my President. We see as woman that the nation is burning and corruption is rampant. Our kids are hungry and the politicians are stealing our tax money. I ask that you be ruthless about corruption and jail those who have done wrong.”

“As a woman sitting here I have two submissions. We need an organisation that takes into account woman’s issues not only on Woman’s Day but every day. We need an organisation that will prioritise woman’s economic emancipation.”
