The reason this prediction flopped is simple: Musk did not buy Twitter as a business decision. He bought it as an ideological project

🧵Actually, there is a better explanation for the so-called “Long Depression” of 1873-96, to wit: there wasn’t any. Instead, many simply assumed that, since gold standard nations experienced downward-trending price levels during that time, they _must_ have been depressed.

If we drive out the billionaires. Who gets that share of the national income that they were previously taking, and how do we want to tax or allocate it instead?

As much as I loathe it, the rightwing messaging machine is a sight to behold. They have, with astonishing discipline/effectiveness, conjured up an Antifa boogeyman out of nothing & are now talking of nothing else when I can’t remember them barely mentioning Antifa just months ago

Israeli officials are already contradicting Trump. Here is Smotrich saying they want to “ensure that this is not, God forbid, a deal of hostages in exchange for stopping the war.” That is, in fact, exactly the point of a ceasefire.

Israeli hostage negotiator: “What we should know is that this deal could have done a long time ago. Hamas agreed to all of the same terms in September 2024… But at that point the response of the Israeli negotiators was that “the Prime Minister did not agree to end the war”.”

It wasn’t pressure on Hamas that got the ceasefire, they’ve obviously been under intense pressure all along. The key variable here was pressure on Netanyahu. That pressure will need to be sustained to ensure he doesn’t blow it up after phase 1, as he did the January deal.

The Israeli military has already murdered so many of this journalist's family. They killed his pregnant wife, children, nephews, nieces, cousins, uncle, friends. And today - as talk of "ceasefire" dominates - the Israeli extermination machine killed yet another of his sons.

Milton Monetary Theory. As if central banks, created and owned by the state sextor, would not have the monopoly on sovereign money. (This was the beginning of taking science out of economics.)

“Had FDR done all of the things Keynes said he should do, and none of the things Keynes said he shouldn’t do, there would have been—I have no doubt—a much more rapid recovery, a recovery that would have been complete sometime in the last half of the 1930s.” 1/2

Everything hinges on Donald Trump telling Netanyahu he will not put up with the usual bullshit his mouthpieces are already telegraphing.

Refusing to release Marwan Barghouti, who embraces non-violence and a two-state solution, is blindingly clear evidence that the Israeli government, despite their protestations, genuinely prefers Hamas in power if there must be Palestinians at all. If you are not pushing for

Trump is asked what guarantees he can give that Israel won’t resume bombardment once it gets its prisoners and captives back. Trump says: “we’ll see.”
