1 in 10 of the top 100 ‘best’ scientists are named Michael or Eric, but only 3% are female, according to Research.com. Putting aside the obvious flaws of the H-index, these numbers are disheartening. Thanks to Michael Eisen for sharing. research.com/scientists-ran…

This is my lovely family. When our son was born 5 years ago we moved out of our 1 bedroom apartment in Dallas into a bigger townhome in the suburbs closer to my in laws. My wife sent out emails requesting to tour 20+ homes and townhomes for rent. She heard back from 1. 1/

When I moved to Germany, we agreed that my husband would be the one to contact landlords for apartments. Because he's German and white, and I'm not.

Very happy to see this #newpaper in NatureEcoEvo. Thanks to the fantastic ipbes team for highlighting our united voice. People are at the root of the problem of biological invasions, and they must be at the heart of it's solution. nature.com/articles/s4155…

The staggering costs of visa inequality🚨 In 2023 rejected EU visas cost the world’s poorest €100M +, 💰 flowing from poor to rich countries, like a 'reverse remittance'. Yet we never hear about this🤨 I talked to EUobserver based on latest LAGO analysis euobserver.com/eu-and-the-wor…

Hello scientists! Many of you whose work has crossed my desk have been kind enough to say I’ve helped with it. Now I need your help. Please would you consider signing this petition in support of the NUJ Nature journals strike docs.google.com/document/u/0/d… #SpringerNatureStrike

I’m not allowed use my out of office reply to tell you I’m striking today, so I’ll do it here instead. This banner and I will be on the picket line outside Nature’s London office with my editorial and production colleagues. Thanks for your support.

Super proud that our review of the Cretaceous Lagerstätte of Lebanon is finally out! Read all about the different sites, the beautiful soft tissue fossils, the taphonomy, and also how colonialism impacts Lebanese palaeontology. Link: lyellcollection.org/doi/full/10.11…

I am also super proud that we recommend that journals publish abstracts in the language(s) of the country where the fossils originate from - and The Geological Society facilitated us, allowing an Arabic abstract (to our knowledge the first for JGS).

My news story for Nature. A Tyrannosauroid fossil in Thailand shed a new light for decolonizing paleontology in Southeast Asia. nature.com/articles/d4158…

We updated the data from our NatureEcoEvo paper for this (my parental leave project). Not a lot of changes (expected) but I hope to continue this so we can see how things are evolving! science.org/content/articl…

There is a genocide going on in Congo because of the rare earth metals that are required to build computers but here is a man wishing we could just stop talking about it so that he can teach computer science. The ways of white supremacy are not even clever or well disguised.

Last week, after months of hard work and lots of conversations, Science Magazine launched a new series—spearheaded by News from Science's Elizabeth Culotta, Shraddha Chakradhar and me—about how researchers are #decolonizing science. science.org/toc/science/38…
