My term as BSG Treasurer ends this September - feel free to get in touch if you're interested in taking it on and want to discuss. It's a substantive role, and you gain a massive amount of insight as to how a charity like the BSG is run. Key duties summarised in the newsletter.

Zermatt yesterday night... 😱 8 DAYS after last major flood! And majority still think this is a normal climate We are LIGHT YEARS AWAY any kind of awareness and yet everything around us is collapsing Was so predictable (and predicted) that it is almost laughable!

MASSIVE amount of sediments are exported downvalley after extreme torrential events in the Alps! 🌊🪨 Here in Valpelline, a crater tens of meters deep opened up 300 m south of Aosta Hut (2788 m, south of Matterhorn)! 😱 Incision downstream is extreme too youtube.com/watch?v=45xRbR…

Saddened to hear of the devastation caused to #Thame by a glacial lake outburst flood. Away from the usual trek to Everest Base Camp, we visited briefly in 2010 and 2011 on the way to explore Dig Tsho. A small community in a stunning setting, the people were warm and welcoming.

Most coverage of the #Thame GLOF has drawn comparisons with the 1985 GLOF from Dig Tsho, located one valley further north, caused by suspected ice avalanche into brimful lake. A few photos here for context. Like Thame, the 1985 GLOF carved a path through the village of Langmoche.

There has been a major dam failure in Poland. The translation of the Polish text is: "The current situation at the Topola reservoir seen from the helicopter." The location is 50.48, 16.95. It seems that the spillway has failed. Immediately downstream is another reservoir.

Well, I'm outta here... the whole auto-follow/migration thing isn't nearly as seamless as I'd hoped, so if you spot me on b*sky (same handle), give me a follow to reconnect and I'll do the same! See you on the other side...✌️
