A Hungarian colleague at a conference recently filled me in on Trump's murky relationship with Orban. Despite their ostensible alliance, Trump double-crossed him over the tariffs. Orban, Netanyahu--Trump ultimately turns on every foreign leader who relies on him. Except one.

The US has become a far-right regime that subverts its former European allies and supports anti-democratic far-right movements and candidates in them. Previous Republican presidents kept their distance from the KKK and neo-Nazis.

In Trump's feeble mind putin attacking civilians in their homes is "retaliation" for taking down legitimate military targets ‐ the very bombers that make these attacks possible. #Kharkiv this am. One person killed, 17 wounded, including rwo children. More talk about "retaliation"

Trump blames Russia's 2014 ejection from the G8 on Justin Trudeau. In fact, the prime minister was Conservative Stephen Harper, the most pro-US Canadian leader in recent history. Until Trump, opposition to Russia's aggression was a hallmark of mainstream conservative parties.

Stuck in its Ukraine quagmire, Russia cannot resupply its Iranian partner on the scale the mullah regime requires. Thus, Ukraine's resistance is sapping Russia's ability to harm Western interests elsewhere in the world, a contribution that needs to be acknowledged and repaid.

The world is becoming numb to Putin's killing in Ukraine. Please resist that. This is a horrific act of state-sponsored terrorism.

I don't know whether Trump is actually working for the Kremlin in the most direct, literal sense. But it hardly matters. No boss could hope for a more obedient, servile subordinate than Putin has in Trump.

We're a bit like people in the 1930s watching the bombing of Guernica and hoping that if we just quarantine the conflict in Spain, the fascists won't do the same thing to us.

Professor Filiz Kahraman and I seek a doctoral student focusing on global diffusion and renegotiation of corporate transparency, accountability, and corruption norms within an authoritarian legal landscape, using Central Asia as a case study. Please PM me for further details.

If firing the messenger doesn't solve the problem of unflattering economic news, Trump can also simply stop publishing employment data. The Soviet Union tried this approach with life expectancy data in the 70s, and it worked out great! nytimes.com/live/2025/07/3…

Make no mistake: a Trump-Putin summit without Zelensky or EU leaders would not be a peace summit but a step towards formalizing a Russo-American alliance to carve up (at best) or completely destroy (at worst) the Ukrainian state.

Groundhog Day: Trump talks tough, sets a deadline, Ru continues the war, deadline passes, Trump does nothing, claims progress. He'll pressure Ukraine again, fail again to make them surrender, and then say he's walking away. The tragedy is different Ukrainians die in each cycle

Trump will never be coaxed into opposing Russian aggression, but unfortunately, he's proved skillful at stringing Europe (and pro-Ukraine Republicans) along . The only way to thwart him is for Europe to act on its own to supply Ukraine and seize Russian assets.

1/13) I was President Trump’s Asst. Secretary of the Treasury (for sanctions etc.) during his first Admin. Q: What should happen if Putin refuses an immediate, complete ceasefire? A: Immediate, crushing sanctions. President Donald J. Trump should tell Treasury Department to take the following 9 steps…

Putin is in Alaska trying to con a diplomatic victory from the US because Ukraine has stopped him from achieving military victory in Europe.
