It’s “too soon to be certain” about how long it’ll take to reopen the port of Baltimore and rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge, says Transportation Sec. Buttigieg.

“The original bridge took five years to construct. ... That tells you what went into that original structure.”

Buttigieg w/ a sobering message on the Key Bridge collapse's impact on the economy:

'There is no question that this will be a major and protracted impact to supply chains. It’s too soon to offer estimates on what it will take to clear the channel and reopen the port.'

Buttigieg attempts to tamp down concerns about U.S. bridges:

'This is a unique circumstance. I do not know of a bridge that has been constructed to withstand a direct impact from a vessel of this size.'
