Eventful afternoon at the NC State Fair as a ride stopped due to a low voltage issue, stranding riders 100 feet in the air. Everyone was able to get off after around 45 minutes with no injuries. (Video from Allicia Best) #ride #statefair #nc #fairide #stuck

Nothing but sunshine today. Then a cold front will push through Sunday evening bringing the chance for some showers. Much of the day will be dry, so it won't ruin any plans. Then we fall back into the upper 60s to around 70 on Monday after two days in the upper 70s.

Homeownership means feeling accomplished you wired up a ceiling fan without getting electrocuted but dumb you can’t figure out how to put on the last piece.

Clouds will move in first today, followed by rain. Here's a loop of the scene across parts of the southeast this morning. That line of showers/storms is expected here by the evening on a much less impressive basis.

Tropical Storm Melissa has formed. It is going to move VERY slowly over the next few days, only traveling around 300 miles between now and Sunday. Then ensembles have it getting picked up and pulled out to sea. But parts of the Caribbean will see their first tropical impacts.

The Nor'Easter a few weeks ago soaked parts of South Carolina. But much of the North Carolina has been very dry. Areas west of Raleigh have seen as little as 2 percent of the expected rainfall over the last 30 days.

Tropical Storm Melissa is crawling WNW at just 2 mph. It is now forecast to become a major hurricane by Monday morning. Parts of the Caribbean could pick up 8”-12”+ from the system, with the highest amounts of 20”-30” looking likely to remain offshore.

Here's a deeper dive into this morning's cold snap. Near freezing in Sanford and Siler City, with several other 30s in rural communities. RDU remained in the 40s, only bottoming out at 44 degrees.

We really need some rain. None through Sunday, but a soaking rain arrives early next week. With highs stuck in the cool 50s, it'll be plain ole nasty for a few days.

Millions of red crabs are on the move across Christmas Island in Australia. 🦀 Over the next few weeks, millions of crabs will leave their burrows and head to beaches to mate and spawn. The migration happens each year but is always cool to see!
