Check out this extremely clear write-up from Alla Katsnelson on the work that Laura Driscoll, Krishna Shenoy, and I did. In a nutshell, we used dynamical systems theory to identify shared, reusable motifs in RNNs trained to perform multiple tasks. P.S. Definitely follow The Transmitter

Our new study is out today in the New England Journal of Medicine! We demonstrate a speech neuroprosthesis that decodes the attempted speech of a man with ALS into text with 97.5% accuracy, enabling him to communicate with his family, friends, and colleagues in his own home. 1/9

Excited to share our NEW preprint: a "brain-to-voice" neuroprosthesis that directly synthesizes voice from neural activity with closed-loop audio feedback. It allowed a man with ALS to speak expressively by modulating intonation & sing melodies via BCI! doi.org/10.1101/2024.0โ€ฆ 1/

Dr. Leigh Hochberg (Leigh Hochberg), director of BrainGate (BrainGate Team), a group of scientists developing brain-computer interfaces, explains how these interfaces enable meaningful communication for ALS patients. Learn more: nej.md/itt-ep36 #Neurotechnology

Congrats to Nicholas Card Maitreyee Wairagkar David Brandman Sergey Stavisky and BrainGate Team on 2 highly impactful studies! I believe we are a big step closer to restoring speech to a large group of people with speech deficits. #BCI biorxiv.org/content/10.110โ€ฆ nejm.org/doi/abs/10.105โ€ฆ

#wssfn #wssfn2024 What a brilliant meeting. So many stimulating (pun intended) clinical debates, pioneering research, and new friends (neurosurgeons, residents, medical students, researchers, even a couple of DJs) from across the world in the beautiful city of #chicago.
