At @qualityoflifeuk we work with communities, the housing industry and local government to improve people's health and wellbeing, but sometimes @luhc and those in charge (Michael Gove) need to do their bit, too. This is one such moment.

I’ve got a new personal blog up. On how things with lots of different benefits - like planting trees or insulating homes - often don’t happen. I’m calling it the *multi-benefit problem*, and I think solving it more often would make our lives better acjsissons.medium.com/solving-the-mu…

“…it is easier to tackle multi-benefit problems at a local level…. You always need some kind of siloes in government, but sometimes a place can be the thing you organise around, rather than an objective.” 👌

Tomorrow is the sixth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. Our new research shows that 84% of social housing high rises still don't have sprinklers and 88% don't have block-wide fire alarms. What happened to 'never again'? insidehousing.co.uk/home/home/vast…

A fine Westminter solstice with Kate Jopling, Noreena Hertz and @ExpressOGrady on the 5th anniversary (👏) of Campaign to End Loneliness, where housing and the built environment is a “big ticket”, and at The Fabian Society with Andrew Western, where housing is facing a “supply crisis”. 🏡🏡🏡

“Rise up with me against the organisation of misery.” Let’s have intergenerational equity, action on social determinants and a rediscovery of the common good.

Excellent thread on the deplorable homelessness crisis in the UK. The solutions? More homes, more social homes specifically, and a new social contract. Deregulation and supply-side reform are not a panacea - the market will not fix this.
