The researchers detected the spike protein in 60% of the long COVID patients at multiple points up to 12 months (blue points and lines in figure below) post-infection but *not at all* in the COVID-19 post-infection but not long COVID patients

This study showed that 28 inflammatory markers combined predicted long COVID at 8 months with 80% accuracy (this is for those who're still saying long COVID is psychosomatic!). So inflammatory markers separate out those with and without long COVID. nature.com/articles/s4159….

I think we need urgent answers to these questions. In the meantime, I'd strongly recommend not exposing yourself to a virus that leads to persistence in what seems to be a significant proportion of people - given we don't know the long-term implications yet.

2. Ventilate. Covid has been so successful in part due to its ability to hang in the air for many hours. This means even if no one is around in a public enclosed space you should wear a mask. But opening a door or a window really helps.

3. Self-isolate. If you are symptomatic, don’t go out and about spreading it everywhere. It is also worth trying to isolate yourself from those you live with if you can. It is far from inevitable that if you get it the rest of your family will. Windows, mask for contact, isolate.
