Paul Durcan was unflinchingly honest, witty and one of Ireland’s best poetic voices. With his passing, Ireland has lost one of its most distinctive and authentic voices - and his work, which often turned the mundane into the extraordinary, will live on for generations.

We are sorry to learn of the death of renowned contemporary poet Paul Durcan. He won the prestigious Whitbread Poetry Prize and the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award. Publications included Crazy About Women and Cries of an Irish Caveman. At dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

‘Crazy about Women’ was the first book by Paul Durcan I came across & I heard his electrifying reading from it in the National Gallery of Ireland at the time. A big fan ever since. So sorry to hear of his passing today, what a loss for us all. Condolences to his family. 🙏🏻
