In my trauma/ptsd treatment, my therapist had to give me a card with 20 feelings on it. Because I never could answer this question. #trauma #ptsd #recoveryposse

It's important for #addiction treatment professionals to know about a variety of peer support options. LifeRing Secular Recovery, SHE RECOVERS ® Foundation, Women for Sobriety, SMART, and Recovery Dharma are the larger options, and there are others. #recoveryposse #secular

"While interrupting supply is important, we know #fentanyl will continue to find its way into the country via smuggling and even shipping the drug or its ingredients. A singular focus on suppressing supply ignores the equal importance of reducing demand." #addiction

There's a lot of great information on the Faces & Voices of Recovery website, such as the value of peer support specialists, the value of telling our stories, and recovery friendly workspaces. #harmreduction #addiction #recoveryposse facesandvoicesofrecovery.org/resources/reco…

This can be true for all drugs. I tell newbies that in the beginning it can seem like they're giving up something important. But eventually it becomes clear that the loss is miniscule and the gains are vast.

In LifeRing #Secular Recovery we view recurrences as a learning opportunity. What exactly happened? How will you handle that situation next time? What can you do to strengthen your recovery plan?

"Harsh federal drug laws and mandatory minimums have fueled the growth of the federal prison population, with no evidence that they deter crime or reduce drug use, while those convicted of drug offenses now make up 43.9% of the Bureau of Prisons population." #addiction #fentanyl

Interesting article about how and why #alcohol impacts women differently than men. And how this difference needs to be considered when developing medications. #addiction #RecoveryPosse psychologytoday.com/us/blog/addict…

Giving up your long-term best interests for short-term pain relief can be a helpful way to think about #addiction. #recoveryposse #soberlife

I've been asked by newbies if I'd use if I knew I was dying. I respond with a strong "No!" I wouldn't want to spend the end disconnected from my loved ones. And that's what would happen because I still believe that using meth again would become all consuming. #recoveryposse

We often don't provide the assistance people need to succeed in recovering from their #addiction. Such as evidence-based addiction and mental health treatment. Some succeed despite this, but more would succeed with it. #recoveryposse #MentalHealthMatters

I'd done my best to numb my pain, which meant I also severed my connection to happiness. Because shutting down some emotions shuts them all down. So my recovery did include increased access to happiness, joy, awe, and so many more helpful feelings.

I stayed stuck in my #addiction for a long time because I thought that if I stopped consuming meth, my trauma pain would overwhelm me. And I'd either commit suicide or end up in a psychiatric facility. Turned out, though, that I was wrong. #recoveryposse #sobriety

My #addiction recovery hasn't been at risk for the past 28 of my 31 years sobriety. So I don't need to focus on it. But I do keep in mind that if I ever feel this isn't true, or even is getting close to that point, I would take the necessary steps. #recoveryposse #sober

In early recovery, I wanted to leap ahead and make up for lost time. I fought the need for patience at first. But then realized that I had to be realistic, start where I was, and focus on incremental improvements.
