Try to name the feeling.

Many of the feelings that are coming up now are feelings that were repressed from childhood because you “hid them away” from yourself as a coping mechanism. Maybe you didn’t have the support, safety, awareness, tools, capacity or the space to process them when you were younger.

After trauma we experience life with a different nervous system that has an altered perception of threat and safety. The way we can change how we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to create safety within.

Today is a good day to start tracking and recording the way your body is responding to the current situation. Rather than cognitively examining what you are thinking, keep a record of the actual sensations you are feeling in your body. What is this moment bringing up for you?

The key in healing is to create a new experience in the body that contradicts the feelings of overwhelm and helplessness that happen to remind you of a past trauma.

The ultimate betrayal is always the betrayal of the self. Forgive the part of you that ignored the information you were receiving through your intuition, the body nudges and your own inner guidance.

So much early programming to "be nice and good” has trained so many of us to override our gut feelings and unique ways of knowing. Are you ready to stop ignoring your intuition, gaslighting your feelings and denying what you know?

Please take care of your world inside of you, so that you can take care of your world outside of you.

Stop gaslighting your own intuition.

Stop gaslighting your own nervous system. Maybe the problem isn’t you. You’re not overreacting or being too sensitive. You’re having a completely healthy and appropriate response to how someone treated you or to your circumstances. Validate your body’s ability to read the signals

Get comfortable with prolonged eye contact. The eyes are the window to the soul. If you want to see who someone really is, the eyes give them away every time.

Without grounding in our body we can not do trauma release work. Before we can be the change we have to change. We have to heal so we don’t create more of the same. We have the opportunity to take responsibility for our pain so we can take action from a place that is true.

It may feel new or counterintuitive to recognize that we can start to heal what is ‘out there’ by first healing the same wounds and patterns within ourselves. But it is also empowering and radical once we see the transformation in our own lives, families and communities.

A lot of people are having a hard time processing the realization that certain folks they respected don’t actually embody the ideals that often claim to have.

The way people speak about past relationships, especially relationships that didn’t go the way they wanted, tells you a lot about their character.
