October 2024 was a momentous month at Martin State Airport! Work on our Runway 15 – 33 Rehabilitation Project wrapped up this month. The project ensures the continued safety, efficiency and compliance of operations.

We enjoyed our recent visit from Greater Baltimore Urban League. This group of students and parents enjoyed learning about Martin State Airport. Our friends at Brett Aviation also provided flights. For some, it was their first time in the air!

NEWS: Maryland Board of Public Works has approved a contract for the construction of a new air traffic control tower here at Martin State Airport. Construction is set to begin soon and conclude in 2026. Learn more at BWIairport.com/MTNtower.

Our Chief of Airport Operations and Maintenance Harold Fowler met with Senator Angela Alsobrooks yesterday at BWI Marshall Airport. The Maryland Aviation Administration leadership team briefed the senator on operations at both airports and the impact of aviation on our region.

Last year's project to rehabilitate our Runway 15-33 is officially an award-winning project. The project was recognized last week by the Maryland Quality Initiative in the MBE/WBE (Engineering) award category. Congratulations to our partners at Airport Design Consultants, Inc.

More industry recognition for our Runway 15-33 Rehabilitation project! Maryland Aviation Administration this week received a Project Achievement Award from CMAABaltimore in the category of Transportation: Construction value greater than $15 Million. CMAA Congrats, team!

Exactly one year to go! June 27 and 28, 2026. We'll be hosting an open house during Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore. We'll have aircraft on display, plus the Blue Angels will perform over Baltimore's Inner Harbor. More at sail250md.org.

We held a groundbreaking ceremony this afternoon to mark the beginning of work on a new air traffic control tower. The new facility will replace our existing tower, which was built in 1942 and is among the oldest active air traffic control towers in the country.

Today we are hosting students participating in the BWI Marshall Airport Summer Youth Initiative. Among the students' highlights of the day (so far): - getting inside a MD State Police helicopter - flying in an airplane, thanks to Brett Aviation #BWIyouth @BWIpartner Baltimore Rec & Parks
