This is "Salmon & Ball" by Albert Turpin from his post-war work: most likely the mid to late 1950s. Albert was a window-cleaner (first photo) who went on to become Mayor of Bethnal Green in 1946 (second photo). #AlbertTurpin #EastLondonGroup #BethnalGreen

Guardian reports Khan sought tourist tax and rebuffed by Treasury Crazy. 1) Just about every developed nation and cities/towns around the world have it. Minimal impact on visitors 2) Mad centralisation of power in Whitehall that a Mayor can't do it. A common local power abroad

Good Vibrations is a symphony. This clip of Brian Wilson and The Wrecking Crew recording the track is outer worldly. Proof that all he needed were just musicians to play his material. He is The Beach Boys.

The Beach Boys - The Lost Concert (1964) At the height of their fame, the Beach Boys did this storming concert. Shortly after this Brian quit touring to focus on writing and producing. Rest in peace legend.

The new four wheelie bins per household scheme meant a huge change for local people almost two years ago - and they prompted more than a few moans. But just look how they've paid off now... miltonkeynes.co.uk/news/environme…

Like everyone else in the music world, I am so sad to hear about the departure of Alfred Brendel. He was a beacon of civilisation, a deeply cultured man who loved music passionately, shared that love widely and never compromised artistically or personally. He will be much missed.

Today was a historic day for women’s rights over their own bodies. Parliament voted to decriminalise abortion, and put an end to the traumatising investigations and court proceedings brought against women suspected of ending their own pregnancies outside of the 24 week limit.
