TheX4.5 solar flare earlier today was associated with a fast moving CME. The western edge of the plasma cloud appears Earth directed and will likely pass our planet by Sept 16th. Geomagnetic storming will be possible.

This was during the weaker phase the of aurora just as the moon was setting in the west. Milky Way and red SARS arc extending up from the tree at an angle with auroral glow. #sars #aurora

A strong (G3) geomagnetic storm watch was added for September 16th and into the 17th when the edge of the X4.5/CME is predicted to reach our planet. Aurora sky watchers at middle to high latitudes should be alert beginning Monday.

We are still waiting on the CME to arrive, it could be late or just side swipe us, we will find out soon. Bad news is some cloud issues tonight for NI, breaks too, best clearance Armagh, Down & maybe Antrim, but bright moon also, it would need to be a G3 #aurora #clouds

So where is comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) heading, now that it has been recovered? Left = fit through observations since early June and extrapolation through the peak with cobs.si/analysis/?come…, right = same time range but with forward scatter from astro.vanbuitenen.nl/comet/2023A3

Woke up 03.30, strong storm in progress, outside total cloud, not even the moon visible. Others got it from Ireland though, it reached G4 which is very impressive

This time next month we will be finding out the calibre of C/2023 A3. We can only hope for regular clear skies for a week or more during its evening prime when clearing twilight. #comets
