Perseid Meteor shower peaks Aug 11th/12th with maximum on the 12th at 21.00. Bright gibbous moon will impact rates but don't be put off, bright Perseids & fireballs will be worth the effort... shorturl.at/mBZze

A few more from Co. Down, my first ever visit to Ballynoe Stone Circles which was cool. St Johns lighthouse was great to see again, last time I was there was during an ex-hurricane when the roads were evacuated.

Perseid meteor shower peaks tonight & Tues night. Tonight has improved somewhat with clear spells over parts of northern Eire and NI for a time before clouding over again. Tues night looks better so far, good luck #perseids

One hour of watching last night to midnight, 1 Perseid seen, another hour at 4am, 1 Perseid seen. Cloud issues between those periods. Planet conjunction was beautiful. Visual session, no images. Will be doing a proper watch with cameras tonight. #perseids

Perseids tonight, best time is after midnight when radiant is higher, put moon to your back and observe region of sky opposite where it will be darker. Patience required. Moon will wash out many, but brighter Perseids & fireballs will be easy to see.

Don't listen to any media hype about seeing hundreds of meteors per hour, that will never be happening with a waning full moon in the sky. Expect a handful per hour, maybe more if your are dedicated, but never let the moon put you off watching.

This is the kind of nonsense doing the rounds on social media, I wont mention the fb page which issued it. This isn't true, it isnt a massive meteor shower (whatever that means) and rates will be much smaller due to strong moonlight. dont listen to garbage on social media.

Perseid meteor watch last night 23.00 to 05.00. 62 Perseids observed. One borderline fireball. Don't know if I got any on camera yet, however I got a nice time lapse of the Jupiter-Venus conjunction which was beautiful. Home 05.30. #perseids

Paul Martin and I before dawn at Lough Fea taking a selfie of the Venus-Jupiter conjunction when this bright Perseid appeared in the same frame reflecting on the water just as dawn was about to break. #perseids

Impressive cell perched over moneymore area, place was flooded. I was shocked how big the updraughts were on it, literally solid and boiling across the zenith. Tops seem too warm for thunder still, but it was def surface based.

The big cell over Moneymore today which caused flash flooding, view of flanking region at 15mm wide on full frame as it moved E. A very potent cell despite the warm cloud tops.

Lough Fea before dawn on August 13th during our Perseid meteor watch. Planets Venus and Jupiter in close conjunction in morning twilight over a calm lough with Charis house on the hills.
