At the #JuneClimateMeetings, the side event "Harmoniya 4 Climate Resilience" introduced participants to the Harmoniya Initiative, which will serve as a hub for work on #agrifood systems during #COP29 It is a joint Food and Agriculture Organization and COP29 Azerbaijan initiative ➡️ enb.iisd.org/events/harmoni…

Kaveh Zahedi, Director, Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment Food and Agriculture Organization said the event would introduce the #COP29 Presidency's mission to empower farmers, villages, and rural communities, as well as solicit feedback on the objectives of this new initiative.

Yalchin Rafiyev, #COP29 Lead Negotiator, Deputy Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, underscored the need to move beyond dialogue and deliver “concrete solutions that bring about real change on the ground.”

Noting 95% of #NDCs include adaptation and mitigation in the agricultural sectors, Martial Bernoux, Senior Natural Resources Officer, FAO, said #farmers are not receiving enough attention despite being the first to be impacted by #climatechange

Motsomi Maletjane, Team Leader, LEG & NAP Unit, UN Climate Change Secretariat, lauded the #COP29 Presidency’s initiative, noting #agriculture, #food systems, and water are frequently identified by countries as priority areas for action on #climatechange
