Excited to be in sunny Edinburgh for Microbiology Society Annual conference to give a talk today summarising phage biology in the Uk - particularly from a therapeutic perspective. This is just the exciting line up for the first half of today's session - more today and tomorrow!

It was lovely last night to meet members of the Select Committee of Science and Technology who drove the UK Bacteriophage inquiry + to meet the other experts informing our committee and others. Great to have top level support for much needed phage technologies. Pic from en route!

When 50 ml of phages is not enough! And you need 50 litres or just 4. So lucky to have Adam Ostrowski πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ visit us from Cellexus to install our very own CentreforPhageResearch system to optimise production scale up. Very much looking forward to seeing what we will do with it!

The interview rooms as you enter our building used to have red blood cells on them, but they appear to have been replaced by phage capsids πŸ™‚!

The next next webinar in the series: β€œVintage Innovation: Towards Broader Use of Bacteriophages in AMR,” is tomorrow! It will focus on the use of phages to combat AMR within the One Health framework. Free and informative, do come!

It is funny reading what we articulate in speech rather than what we write, but I think it actually might mean we say things more naturally and simply, anyway Beatrice Bowlby from BioTechniques asked good questions πŸ™‚!

Phage researchers are great cooks and foragers! It was lovely to spend some time reflecting and eating togetherπŸ™‚1!1!!!!!!. .

I was very honoured to be invited to Association for Molecular Pathology Madrid – very nice to think about diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in the same light as Cancer, see where phages fit and learn across disciplines how new tools in Machine Learning can help us see the wood from the trees!

I think this will be a great project for someone - if we can easily monitor the way patients immune systems respond throughout phage therapy treatment we will be able to get a really good handle on what is happening πŸ™‚! You will work with Spyridon Megremis, PhD (he/him)πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·πŸ€β˜˜οΈπŸŽ§, Don Jones and me!

It was a lot of fun to talk about our CentreforPhageResearch work as part of all things phage, and be a part of this lovely show with such intersting guests and engaging host. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Clearly combining phages and antibiotics will be useful, here is the nice work driven by Marie Atwood where we show good synergy in their groups well established models πŸ™‚

It is so nice to work and spend time with folk as parts of their scientific journeys. Sad when they leave but always lovely to check in and see what they are up to in the future, and a good excuse to (badly in my case) play badminton and to picnic in the park!

Thank you CentreforPhageResearch folk and all the other presenters at the Bacteriophage Oxford meeting for the great talks and lively discussions πŸ™‚! Hope everyone has good journeys back, I'm home still happily processing it all!

En route home from St Andrews, where I gave a keynote speech as part of a fab day with Tayside microbiologists. This building has an interesting microbiology history being the home of the Scottish Parliament when Edinburgh was rendered unsafe due to bubonic plague in 1645/46!
