Took Amtrak Crescent from Charlottesville, VA to Atlanta, GA this past week and I thought I would share my experience since there are plans to expand in the Southeast with Atlanta as the central hub. 🧵

Today I want to spend (too much) time talking about the partially self-imposed stranglehold Georgia puts itself in regarding funding rail improvements, both passenger and freight, and some ways to address them to unlock major mobility potential within the state. 🧵

I remember well the stop that used to be here; it had a shelter and was very busy. Removing the main MARTA bus stop serving our Amtrak station in favor of a turn lane for cars remains one of the saddest decisions I've witnessed as an Atlanta transit person.

For this final day of early voting, we'll put in a bid for the polling location at Fulton County Govt Center at 130 Peachtree St. It's a short walk from the Five Points MARTA Station! Transit Oriented Democracy😉 (BTW, there's an indoor waiting area, no standing in the cold.)
