Random fun #space fact: while there are many moons in the solar system, only one is known to have its own magnetic field. That's Jupiter's moon Ganymede, which is also the largest moon in the solar system -- it's even bigger than Mercury! (Nobody tell Mike Brown does not X.)

The brightest object in the night sky (after the moon) is Venus -- the goddess of love. So in the new year, remember this: when all is at its darkest, love helps light your way. Well, you know, and the moon. But that spoils the poetry of the moment. ;-) Happy New Year. #space

I was thinking about pledging that I'd eat one cupcake every time they voted on Speaker of the House, doubling for every vote. I am starting to be very glad I did not pledge this.

It's the Sol of the Beast! Little-known fact: for one sol only, Perseverance sprouts horns and makes that devil-sign thingy with its robotic arm.

If you can remember what I was doing before I started nostalgically scrolling through pictures from the first days after MER's landing, please remind me. Or, you know what, don't. <3

Space is hard. This is still an historic achievement, and Virgin will learn from the anomaly and succeed next time around. Go get 'em, y'all. space.com/virgin-orbit-f…

This would be great news, except for the fact that it's because Parler simply no longer has a niche because Twitter is rapidly becoming Parler. arstechnica.com/?p=1909190

The Supreme Court's Dobbs leak investigation was inconclusive, but look on the bright side: at least they've shown convincingly that the leaker wasn't someone *other than* a Supreme Court justice. Which means ... huh. cnn.com/2023/01/20/pol…

You know why the US doesn't have the metric system? Pirates. I mean, some other reasons, too. But it started with pirates. theregister.com/2023/01/22/ret…

Spirit was the first Martian mountaineer. The hills she climbed -- where she first found evidence of past water -- were the Columbia Hills, named for that shuttle. She crested the tallest, Husband Hill, named for Rick Husband. Like Spirit herself, they're gone, but they live on.
