Would it have killed Forbidden Planet to note anywhere at all online that they were closed Easter Sunday? We did check before schlepping across town only to find a wee note on the door...

This was my feeling too on seeing that Home Office vid, which I will not share as it's government propaganda created via an operational arm and distrubuted through a Sun journalist and I don't even have a word for how that disgusts me. I want these clowns gone, now.

If degrees seem a 'rip-off' it's because this gov slashed UK student subsidies. Even WITH fees unis have to pursue unregulated income from foreign students. Which the same gov now tries to block with immigration reform. Where, exactly, are unis MEANT to get their running costs?

What eats me is that borrowing to help us get back on our feet appears to be completely off the table as an option. This is Osborne's doing, taking that "the government is a household" nonsense and embedded it in our national psyche as a simple fact. It remains a lie.

A government is not a household. A government is not a household. A government is not a household. A government is not a household. A government is not a household. A government is not a household. A government is not a household. A government is not a household.

I mean when it comes down to it though right, Thatcher won, yeah? Cameron and Osborne won. Between them they changed the narrative so successfully that ONLY a conservative manifesto can get a majority vote in today's UK. Any 'victory' in this climate feels pretty bloody hollow.

An interesting (if dense, sorry) look at pretty much the only thing that really matters if Labour are to get us out of the hole we're in: how we talk about borrowing. What Reeves has said, she what she hasn't said. Will it be enough? (I have doubts.) fraserofallander.org/why-labours-bo…

He's very competent and all but when Starmer makes speeches all I can hear is John Major cosplaying as a Church of Scotland minister. Something about his cadence puts me straight back in a kirk pew.

What really breaks my heart isn't that he has zero class, zero respect or decorum or basic decency. It's that we have somehow come to a place where so many people won't care. Remember when GWB was a monster? He would NEVER. 20 short years later...

My guilty secret is I love contrast thread and use it to spice up dull shirts even though Derek the suit guy disapproves.

I'm sorry but I'm just not ready to have these grown men's weird-ass hairstyling choices back in my life. I hated them in the 90s and I still hate them now.

I see it's time for the usual go-round of Concerned Citizens talking about all the many things the USA could do to prevent school shootings - anything EXCEPT making guns less available of course. Might as well stick to thoughts and prayers.

Dundee folks, drop Dundee Waterstones an email at [email protected] to let them know if you'd like to come along and see me talk to Sam on Thursday evening!

Well here's a dystopian twist I had not predicted. Here's a thought. If the unnecessary thing you're doing eats an absolutely enormous amount of energy in a world that's in an energy crisis MAYBE JUST STOP DOING THE THING. (h/t The Guardian morning email)

Every so often I remember that Dundee used to have a fantastic and well-regarded literary festival and it got yanked for no good reason at all by the Uni, and it makes me really sad and frustrated.
