I try to do a safe handoff to the PCP and educate the patient on “red flags” so that they can always contact me or return to GI oncology clinic to investigate worrisome symptoms, e.g. unintentional weight loss, severe abdominal pain, bleeding, new-onset jaundice, etc…

And also, I use the word “cure” here to mean “durable remission” but with some disease biologies I can be reasonably confident after a years-long period of surveillance that recurrence is vanishingly unlikely
