It’s been a summer of sockeye especially at Lake Wenatchee where the updated “record return” is 166,000-plus which is eight times the spawning escapement! Grab the August The Reel News “Fishing Tails” column at a local tackle shop/outdoor retailer or visit thereelnews.com

It was another very busy week on the salmon fishing front with additional Chinook salmon openers announced in two Puget Sound marine areas. Read more a blog I did along with our CAPE team at WDFW. wdfw.medium.com/new-blog-the-s…

While I enjoy catching salmon, simply watching them blows me away with amazement. These Chinook - along with sockeye and coho - who return right in heart of Seattle are nearing their peak. To date 6,466 Chinook have passed the Ballard Locks fish ladder. Be sure to check it out!

The sockeye returns are bountiful across several areas in CWA and WWA this summer! In fact, surplus sockeye returning to Baker Lake will go towards rebuilding sockeye runs in Lake Washington and Lake Cushman. wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/report…

Flashes of silver are appearing all across Puget Sound, which should generate a decent salmon fishery for weeks to come! Read more in the September The Reel News “Fishing Tails” available at your local tackle shop/outdoor retailer or visit the website at thereelnews.com

Well that didn’t take long! Got the fishing lines out behind the boat at 6:45 a.m., made several passes in Marine Area 10 south of Edmonds Marina, and done with four coho up to 9 pounds in the boat by 8 a.m.!
