It’s taken me 40 years but I may be about to make my debut on ITV Wales News this evening. My previous appearances have been restricted to press conference “cutaways” and off-mic shouted questions.

Some weeks ago I was asked to give a talk to the WI about working at the BBC. This was part of my presentation about the two minutes leading up to a live transmission on BBC 1.

As it’s BBC Radio 5 Live anecdote day - I was once reporting about queuing ambulances at a Swansea hospital.
“Nine hundred and ninety nine patients are waiting,” said the presenter.
“There are a lot,” I replied. “Not quite that many, though. They’re 999 patients.”
