Did you know last year Aussies spent 28 million days fishing combined? (I know I contributed a couple of those days!) The latest ABARES national survey of rec fishers is out, and it shows rec fishing generates over 100k jobs and more than $11 billion a year for the economy.

I’ve just announced to parliament that from March 1, less than 30% of QLD will be drought-declared for the first time since 2013. Drought status will be revoked for the following LGAs: - Rockhampton - Central Highlands - Woorabinda - Barcoo - more than half of Barcaldine

The Palaszczuk Govt will invest $7.5M into developing Qld aquaculture! Great to announce it at Ornatas’ Townsville hatchery, where they’ve got 30 staff and scope to bring on 15 more soon. The number of aquaculture jobs in Townsville has doubled in just 1 year - 109 to 218!

My heart goes out to primary producers in the Gulf Country who are experiencing severe flooding. My Department is on standby to provide assistance where they can.

On the ground in Doomadgee to inspect flood damage and discuss impacts on the community with locals. The Palaszczuk Govt is providing assistance - we’ve activated DRFA with Min. Murray Watt and the Albanese Govt, and my dept is co-ordinating fodder drops to primary producers.

Every industry needs to do its part to achieve net zero emissions. Proud to launch the Qld Low Emissions Agriculture Roadmap 2022-2032 in Rockhampton. The Roadmap is a guiding document paving the way for government and industry to continue driving down emissions in Ag.

I’m absolutely committed to a Voice to our National Parliament. I believe it is a path to reconciliation. It’s about a simple idea: that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should have a say in decisions that impact them. I stand side-by-side with First Nations people.

Gayndah & the North Burnett is at the heart of Qld’s citrus industry & the Gayndah Orange Festival is a fitting celebration! Great to kick off festivities with committee president Cr Dael Giddins, and Nth Burnett Mayor Robbie Radel at the Gayndah Orange Festival Ball last night.

Good governments work closely with industry. I’m always delighted to engage with Queensland Farmers' Federation and AgForce Queensland to hear what their members have to say about the state of Qld agriculture. Today’s meeting of the Ag Ministerial Advisory Council was another opportunity to do just that.

From Darkness to Daylight, we’re walking for victim survivors of domestic and family violence. As a White Ribbon Ambassador, it’s a cause very close to my heart. Together we can work to end the scourge of domestic and family violence.

Less than 10% of Qld is drought-declared for the first time since 2013. I have accepted the recommendations of Local Drought Committees to revoke the drought-declared status for the Barcaldine, Boulia, Longreach, McKinlay, Richmond, Isaac, Livingstone, Whitsunday & Winton LGAs.

Tara is in recovery mode. This community has been hit hard by the fires. But people here are resilient. They're sticking together. Our Queensland Government agencies are on the ground in full force to help. We will be here every step of the way on the road to recovery.
