Today Rohan Talbot gave evidence at the International Development Committee about the situation in Gaza. In this particularly powerful moment he recounts how when he asks his colleagues in #Gaza what they want him to say to MPs they say “don’t bother, it doesn’t matter anymore. We’re waiting to die”.

Today, they targeted the solidarity tent—a space aimed at fostering solidarity among Silwan residents and with others who care about protecting the neighborhood and which, over the years, had become a landmark spot in the community. 🧵

After destroying the tent, authorities also demolished a community center and a neighboring home. The center served over 1,000 youth, women, and children with sports, cultural, and educational activities—rare in East Jerusalem, where underinvestment means few public spaces. 🧵

In February, the target was the home of Fakhri Abu Diab, elected community leader of Al-Bustan who had been leading negotiations over a zoning plan with the authorities. Last week, they came back to demolish what was left of Fakhri’s home—a room where his son and family lived. 🧵
