Yesterday I made some brief, preliminary comments on glaring omissions in a report by David Yager et al.

Prior to recommending / considering changes, we ought to require this misguided regulator to simply operate in accordance with its enabling statute, which it has never done.

Two glaring shortcomings of this report:

1. Landowners, the group most affected by AER decisions, are barely mentioned and had no input (unlike the regulated industry).

2. The AER’s central, critical function is to conduct hearings - the report is essentially silent on this.

Picking through this report.

I’ve long called for review & reform of the Alberta Energy Regulator, but these recommendations for the most part are not the roadmap required to accomplish fair oversight of the Alberta upstream oil & gas industry.

A great, informative piece about an important emerging dispute involving the Woodland Cree Nation.

Thanks to Susan Thompson ⁦⁦Sisu van Hellberta⁩ and ⁦Markham Hislop⁩.

Mainstream media are slumbering on this important, changing story. energi.media/alberta/obsidi…

Surely auto race tracks can be located where they won’t impact precious natural places, including important bat and bank swallow habitats?

Please reverse your decisions Rebecca Schulz

This is getting interesting. Treaty 8, mineral, and surface rights disputes, with earthquake risks related to the operations of a two-bit oil company thrown in.

Should unhappy landowners across Alberta also block access to wells? Will the police defy court orders in support?

When a regulator advertises or brags (most inappropriately in my humble view) what a great job it’s doing - BEWARE!

Regulators and other tribunals often make errors of law in rendering decisions. Too few people challenge Alberta Energy Regulator decisions, whereby the body’s decision making ability does not improve over time.

Happy to see the decision of the Alberta Environmental Appeal Board to allow racetrack development that adversely impacts the Rosebud valley being challenged by judicial review filed by Save The Rosebud.

I can assure everyone that Obsidian Energy trespassed on private and Crown land with impunity as its successor MAGA Energy is now in Edmonton (Armisie Field). The companies and their lawyers know it.

Assume nothing as to rights to use land for oil & gas purposes in Alberta!

Wells that are supposedly plugged can’t just be buried and forgotten. They need to be monitored for all time. All humans need to realize this grim reality and change course for safety of land, it’s owners, water, and air quality.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

My Mom has Parkinson’s from breathing illegally-vented gas from well operations near her house and garden.

Let’s ensure oil & gas production is safe and legal. It’s not too much to ask for. Industry knows how to do it but is too cheap.

Human lives matter.

Albertans, please join us in demanding significant reform of the Alberta Energy Regulator.

Illegal gas venting affects thousands of Alberta landowners.

You don’t want to breathe hydrocarbon gases.

Tell your MLA to call for such reform or they won’t have your vote.

Also my family’s story between Oct 15, 1977 when gas venting in an urban location began, through June 11, 1999 when Regulator ordered shut in of operations w/o telling the landowners (order ignored), to Sept. 23, 2011 when the Regulator ordered proper surface well abandonment.
