Amen to this 1000x. All anyone needs to know about PEN America is that they’ve cancelled the awards event (for writers) and the Festival (for writers) but will proceed with the gala (for socialites). The priorities are crystal clear.

At least 40 police officers have surrounded the ongoing rally. Philadelphia Police Department members, some of whom carry zip tie handcuffs and wear badges identifying them as members of the “Major Incident Response Team” and “Counterterrorism Unit,” are east of the encampment.

The vice president of PEN America himself refuted this piece, saying it “perverts and distorts the necessary and legitimate criticisms against PEN America while … reducing the horrific and ongoing massacre in Gaza to a cause that might be compelling.”
