Today is World Ocean Day 💙 New figures from the Fisheries & Aquaculture shows the number of overfished stocks continues to rise. It doesnt have to be this way #sustainablefishing Manuel Barange #SOFIA2024 Marine Stewardship Council #morefish youtu.be/Js7ytNT6b-k?si…

🇫🇷 l'Equipe de France kick off University of Plymouth @plymbiolmarsci expedition to understand juvenile sole 🐟habitat needs in #SevernEstuary & Bristol Channel: great to have @ARIES_DTP PhD Marion Lefebvre du Prey leading a fully international team of Marine Biology UPSU undergrads & interns #plymBIO #FHRU.

The first sampling week of my PhD began yesterday, with an international dream team 🇨🇵🇬🇧🇪🇦 We'll sample juvenile flatfish across the Severn estuary to study the nursery habitat Ben Ciotti University of Plymouth @ARIES_DTP

Bass sampling expedition day 2 University of Plymouth! More good weather, and the first #seabass (plus plenty of sandeels and flatties for good luck)! #FHRU #plyMBIO

Which inshore habitats are most important for fish during early life stages?🐟 With Ben Ciotti, Marion Lefebvre du Prey, Rachel Turnbull, and Ryan Hepburn, we are using a variety of sampling techniques to assess juvenile fish habitat quality. FinVision Thanks to the fsbi and University of Plymouth

8 months ago, these rooms were empty and I didn’t know anything about fish husbandry. Today I am running experiments in the amazing Brixham Laboratory to calibrate indices of growth for juvenile sole, for my PhD. What an amazing journey, and it is just the beginning.. stay tuned !🐟

From surf-riding clams to weever fish – Dr Ben Ciotti (Ben Ciotti) explores the dynamic environment of surf zone ecosystems. Discover the hidden ecology of our beach destinations. 🔍🩴🌊 plymouth.ac.uk/discover/hidde…

This is what our work's all about - tagging fish, measuring fish and talking about fish. With Dr Thomas Stamp, Emma Sheehan, Hannah Rudd, Bryce Stewart et al. youtube.com/watch?v=Tp0K5a…

My second PhD field expedition was a success, with stunning sunsets, plenty of juvenile fish (although not as many sole as expected 🤔), and amazing students. Thanks to Ben Ciotti, Devon & Severn IFCA , Biological and Marine Sciences and @ARIES_DTP for their support 🐟 Now, off on holidays !

Been a genuine pleasure welcoming Marion Lefebvre du Prey, my PhD student with Ben Ciotti to School of Life Sciences, University of Essex to learn the art of #otolith prepping, reading, lasering, and eye lens peeling. Quick learner! Maybe the future #otolithgirl...?! Still not convinced that sole are "cute" tho...

V grateful for this exciting collaboration on Marion Lefebvre du Prey Natural Environment Research Council PhD: developing powerful techniques that reveal so much about habitat #efh needs of a cute (👏yes👏) & important species. Future Leaders at the helm in BOTH senses University of Plymouth Biological and Marine Sciences. Thx East Coast Crew!

I had a great week in Dr Anna Sturrock ‘s lab, learning the art of micro-dissection, otoliths preparation and eye lenses peeling 🐟 (and all in 5 days 🤯). So grateful for working with amazing PhD supervisors 😍🤝

I had an amazing time at the International #Flatfish Symposium in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 where I presented a talk and a poster. Already excited to meet the flatfish nerds again… see you in 4 years in Japan ! 🐟 @ARIES_DTP Ben Ciotti Biological and Marine Sciences

Help identify fish nursery habitat by developing tools to measure growth and metabolism in wild fishes. Apply for this exciting and fully funded #PhD studentship working with University of Plymouth’s Ben Ciotti & University of Southampton’s Clive Trueman (clivetrue.bsky.social). 👉plymouth.ac.uk/study/research…

It was a pleasure to be back at the International Flatfish Symposium last month, this time at Wageningen U&R. The symposia have provided a valued research community since PhD days. Pleasure to see University of Plymouth PhD student Marion Lefebvre du Prey present this time :)

PhD University of Plymouth + University of Southampton: pioneer innovative lab techniques to measure key physiological rates in wild populations... applied to juvenile turbot🤗. Exceptional aquaria facilities + field work on glorious Cornish beaches😎 Clive Trueman (clivetrue.bsky.social) tinyurl.com/4czyhcy9

🎓 Excited to welcome University of Plymouth PhD students back to the lab this summer! Their project aims to refine a molecular index of growth for juvenile fish, using Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) concentration in tissues. 🐟🧬 #MarineScience #MarineBiology #BrixhamLab
