Emma Fromm’s first PhD article is now out! Congrats Emma! Check it out if you’re interested in the combined effects of #warming 🌡️ and #habitatconnectivity on #lizard ’s #microbiota 🦎🦠.

4 years, 9 projects, 150 team members, many meetings, experiments and papers, but it's time for the Bacterial Plant Diseases Programme to say farewell. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of it! #helpingkeepplantshealthy 🦠🌿See our highlights reel here

First year microbiology practicals UoB Biosciences. Students are looking at fungi that live on leaves. This cool experiment was shown to me by a now retired colleague. The leaf never touches the agar, but the fungi fire off spores giving a perfect image of the leaf.
The 'tree surgery' was finally on today 🤩 We started the last experimet of the FUTURE OAK project, testing the effect of microbial SynComs in oak saplings! Happy to have the best team all along James McDonald Usman Hussain Ed Pyne Marine C. Cambon Jim Downie (@[email protected])
First SynCom preprint from Gontran Arnault PhD thesis 🎉
We inoculated 13 different SynComs on bean seeds & tracked their transmission / impacts on seedling and rhizosphere microbiota.
With mass effects, SynComs strains are dominant & reduce to 20% the colonization of soil microbiota
1/7 New preprint from the group, led by Marine C. Cambon. We show that chemical elicitors from Agrilus bigutattus beetle larvae trigger proliferation and virulence of a plant pathogen biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Marine Cambon and colleagues found that the composition of leaf fungal communities, but not bacterial communities, is related to #droughttolerance in #Neotropical trees.

I am very happy that the last paper from my postdoc with Corinne Vacher at INRAE umr biogeco is out in Molecular Ecology
Really happy to see our first paper out in PCI Microbiol !
We studied the transmission of synthetic microbiota from seed to seedling & the effects on plant phenotype 🌿

After a great meeting with Charlie Pauvert & Thomas Hitch in Aachen, I am officially starting my new postdoc project on oak microbiota SynCom: purification of 452 oak isolates with Alejandra Ordoñez and the FUTURE OAK project! 💪🌳🧫

Big congrats to newly minted Dr. Bethany !! 🙌🏻👏 Thanks to AberMycol and Dr Lars Markesteijn 🇺🇦 for examining and Nia Whiteley for chairing. #PhDone CoESE Postgrads @ Bangor University BU Biology & Zoology
Fully funded MSc by Research opportunity! Come work w/ me & Prof John Healey @BangorSNS to explore the value of UK farm woodlands for timber products and carbon using terrestrial laser scanning. Partnership w/ Woodknowledge Wales Pls RT & share w/ interested parties
