Fire to the Oligarchy 🔥 ცეცხლი ოლიგარქიას 🔥 Today, this is the main slogan of the ongoing resistance against the regime in Georgia, reflecting 12 years of struggle against Mr. Ivanishvili. I just realized how relevant this slogan is—not only for 🇬🇪 but on a global level.

🇬🇪With global attention fixed on Ukraine, the EU, and the new US admin, Georgia is quietly sliding into dictatorship. Georgian Dream (GD), under oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, is dismantling democracy at alarming speed—largely unnoticed by the West 🧵A new dictatorship thread 1/24

#TerrorinGeorgia new wave of arrests reaching new heights in absurdity: student girls detained for bringing chairs to the protests, while another student is arrested just for applauding! Kafka in Tbilissi!

#OTD, 34 years ago millions of Georgians voted in a referendum answering a question: "Do you agree or disagree with restoring Georgia’s state independence based on the Act of May 26,1918?". 98.9% answered "Yes", 🇬🇪 declared its independence. Long live sovereign and democratic 🇬🇪!

On March 31, we held a larger-than-usual demonstration. As Queer Initiative, we brought a new banner that read “People’s Spring is Here.” It received a lot of positive feedback—people smiling, thanking us, and taking photos. 🏳️‍🌈Follow our work at @queer.initiative (Instagram)🏳️‍⚧️

I’m so furious right now! Irakli Kobakhidze just made the most treacherous statement in our history: “On April 9, a foreign force engaged in violent acts against our citizens… 36 years later, still a foreign force is engaged in violence on Rustaveli Avenue.” Holy mother of

In Tbilisi for a quick visit, and it's noticably depressing here. The most common conversation with friends is 'did you make it across the border okay?', followed by stories of foreigners who were deported. This from a country that was once the light in the region.

Day 141. This is our endgame, we know we cannot stop whatever faces us. You can help us avoid whatever costs can be avoided in our national liberation struggle through targeted sanctions, regime non-recognition, and calls for new Parliamentary elections. #GeorgiaProtests

Recent arrests and sentences of opposition leaders in #Georgia further erode its democracy. All sustainable societies need multiple voices. #Finland calls 🇬🇪 government to respect their international commitments and pluralism, and to return back to the path of European future.

We are seeing massive crackdown on civil society, imprisonment of all key opposition leaders, completely anti-democratic, authoritarian actions by the disputable government of Georgia.

FM Lars Løkke Rasmussen: “Denmark strongly condemns Georgian Dream’s imprisonment of multiple opposition leaders, prosecution of civil society, crackdown on independent media and prolonged pretrial detention of Mzia Amaglobeli. DK supports targeted sanctions.”

The arrests and convictions of Georgian opposition leaders and the crackdown on civil society by Georgian Dream authorities are a massive blow to the country’s democracy. I call on Georgian authorities to respect international commitments to democratic principles and rule of law.
