How effective are lockdowns, and how long do they take to work? Here’s is our take on the Italian experience, finally out on EID (online first version) at wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/27…
The reproduction number fell below 1 two wks after lockdown and stabilized at 0.76 after 3wks. 1/8

From South Korea:

'Symptom screening fails to identify most COVID-19 cases in children, and SARS-CoV-2 RNA in children is detected for an unexpectedly long time.'

We are relying on symptom screening in Ontario schools.

Computational social science (CSS) has exploded in prominence over the past decade, with thousands of papers published using observational data, experimental designs, and large-scale simulations that were once unfeasible or unavailable to researchers.

A first case of reinfection from HKU, with distinct virus genome sequences in 1st and 2nd infection (142 days apart). Kudos to the scientists for this study.

This is no cause for alarm - this is a textbook example of how immunity should work.

Glad to see that other groups are working on this topic outside China and results are roughly in line with ours (medrxiv.org/content/10.110…)

It's great to see our paper on second wave scenarios (very timely!) of out in Nature Human Behaviour today. We show that testing work, but only if accompanied by tracing & household quarantine (panel g below). Main at rdcu.be/b55RH (see also SM for more scenarios)

By using contact tracing data from Hunan, China, we found no statistically significant differences in transmissibility between children and adults medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

(1/7) Worrying indications that the second wave of COVID-19 has now begun in Hong Kong, with more than 50 local infections being identified in the past few days and a large number expected to be reported later today.

Last work, with a dream team Michele Starnini Aleta Michele Tizzoni 🇺🇦, now out: medrxiv.org/content/10.110…. We quantify the biases caused by the use of inaccurate data in the estimation of R(t) and advocate for estimating it using only real time-series of dates of symptoms' onset.

This is why we need to learn much more about “correlates of protection” against SARS-CoV-2 beyond serology, quickly
