At some point in the ChatGPT in schools discourse, the irony of all this will hit fully beyond cheating. Students will use AI to take assessments, while faculty will use AI to create tests and have AI grade for them. Who gains what in that scenario?

All of this is purely anecdotal, but I will say I think its important to attend to differences—my students at a public urban university certainly use it, but I’ve never had any of them retort like this when I use similar anti-AI rules in class!

I wrote why our students need AI literate professors who actually talk with them about tools like ChatGPT. Without that, we risk an entire generation of students being forced to chart their own path in using or resisting AI.

Google Labs has an AI detector they are rolling out called SynthID. Big caveat that it only works with Google generated text, video, audio, etc. It makes you wonder why all the other AI platforms haven't adopted watermarking. It's almost like Google is trying to send a message 🤏

In a matter of years we’ve gone from cringe AI “slop” to coherent audio and video generations. Google knows this poses significant risks to society and that’s why they’ve committed to watermark outputs.

Yes, you can still tell it is AI, but for how much longer? We are so far beyond text generation or AI slop. This is serious technology that deserves public inquiry and debate, not hyped takes or dismissal. Disclosing AI usage must become a priority.
