A great guide to what Reviewers of top bus journals look for. It helps scholars understand what is needed "to get into" a journal. It also reveals why our profession faces a crisis of relevance. There is no consideration for impact to practice or societal issues.

We need to have a ‘code of conduct’ for reviewing manuscripts, like (1) if you say that something is not novel then provide the reference. (2) If you propose an experiment, state precisely to which claim it is crucial. (3) If you want to say something nasty then sign your name.

Weird thing has happened in #LK99 twitter storm - scientist's h-indices are being quoted, I think as a proxy for their reliability. This is not good, can't let it become normalised Some examples: Peter Higgs (Nobel prize) h=11 Grigori Perelman (solved Poincaré conjecture): h=10

Awards, papers, and h-indexes might seem appealing, but in the end what you'll remember are the people that celebrated with you when you were up and lifted you up when you were down.

If you have constructive feedback, it’s not rude to speak up. It's unkind to stay silent. Honesty is the highest form of flattery. It signals that you respect their ability to handle the truth. Don't deprive people of the opportunity to learn. Offering ideas is an act of care.
