Reading about the impact of sudden funding cuts on countries’ HIV responses is saddening. And yet, there is HOPE. Govts and partners are stepping up to protect the health and rights of people living with HIV; with communities once again showing resilience and leadership.

Today, on #InternationalDayOfFamilies, we recognize the vital role families play in the lives of people living with HIV. Families — of all kinds — are a source of strength, care, and resilience on the journey toward health, dignity, and equality.

UNAIDS projected that by 2030, without an urgent scale-up in prevention and treatment, 21.8 million people could be living with HIV in Eastern and Southern Africa. Now, with funding drying up, this number will only grow —placing communities, health systems, and progress at risk.

Covering #PCB56 felt different this year. The global HIV response is in crisis — but what stood out was the solidarity. Board members stood by the Joint Programme, and the NGO DELEGATION TO THE UNAIDS PCB delegation reminded us how UNAIDS keeps communities at the center, where their voices matter most.
