On Saturday 1st February 1958, the Busby Babes played their last match on English soil before Munich. It turned out to be a classic with United beating Arsenal 5-4 at Highbury. A wonderful epitaph to their memory. This the story of that day in London town. Available tomorrow.

Irish Mancunian Stu’s Football Flashbacks Very similar story to me in that I could have played for England and Ireland (Northern Ireland also) but never felt English even though I was born in Manchester and so chose to play for Ireland. Great times, great memories (and great nights out…!).

I’m grandson of an Irish migrant, living in one of the most diverse communities in the country. We get along together pretty well with every section of the community making its contribution. Talk of an “island of strangers” shockingly echoes the divisive language of Enoch Powell
