With the start of basketball on the horizon, it is important for HS players (and parents) to understand some unique dynamics compared to many other HS sports - perhaps relevant to the seeming declining participation rates Mark Miller Colton Wilson Jordan Loppnow Travis Wilson

Every coach has seen it... talented athletes who never last. Not because of skill, but because they aren’t coachable. Athletes who listen, accept feedback, and stay accountable? They win. They last. They grow. Talent fades. Coachability doesn’t.

You don’t get to carry yesterday’s effort into today. The goal isn’t to be great someday. The goal is to be better today than you were yesterday. Everybody talks about results. Few commit to the work.

In a half court situation, there are few instances in which a player should take more than 3-4 dribbles. Good examples of being efficient with limited dribbles.

If you are not listening to the Hoop Heads podcast you should. Host Mike Klinzing does a great job facilitating in depth conversations with guests across a wide basketball spectrum.

Agree. I had to read this email twice, bc the 1st time I could not believe it was real. So now if coaches want their teams and players to be properly recognized they should enter stats on 2,3,4 platforms? This is not a time free exercise 🤷🏻‍♂️

It is no wonder why we have zero chance of implementing a shot clock. We can’t even agree on a stat collection service in Wisconsin. So this year I will upload stats to two services and then a third service is going to do the top 10 poll.

The hard truth of coaching: it’ll test your patience, your purpose, and your heart. But the impact you make lasts far beyond the wins.

People assume players like Zach Lavine are natural freak athletes In reality, he has spent countless hours working on his explosiveness as shown here (Via Taapathletics22 🎥)

"You need to work as hard to be a great teammate as you do to be a great player." -Jon Gordon When your effort goes toward making the people around you better, you stop playing games and start winning them. Great players compete. Great teammates connect. Both matter.

An athlete takes a huge step forward when a coach doesn't have to ask them to work hard, extra, or correctly. It's called taking ownership.

You take the hit, stay composed, and keep doing what’s right for the kid. That’s leadership. The Other Side of the Whistle.

"A lot of players don't understand what it takes. They think it's just going to be their skill level - and it's really not." It's not just desire.  It's discipline. It's not just wanting.  It's work. It’s not just what you can do; it’s what you choose to do.

Effort is personal. Standards are contagious. If your room accepts average, your results will too. Elite isn’t what you do on your best day— it’s what you refuse to allow on your worst.

Players have 2 choices: Either pout or prepare. Whether you play or don’t play, whether you win or lose, you will never regret working hard, making commitments, being disciplined or focusing too much. These skills not only prepare you for your game, but will prepare you for life!

The most underrated skill a Basketball Player can have - Self Awareness There are A LOT of ways to be a great player, but one way that guarantees you will not be a great player is trying to be something you aren’t & do things you can’t Do what you do

Getting older does not automatically mean getting better. Don’t just become an older “version” of your “current” self.
