Over 1,000 responses in 4 days from 55 countries so far!🔥🔥👏👏👏 Have your say on how we manage S aureus bacteremia: redcap.duke.edu/redcap/surveys… @VanceFowler5 Let's see if we can get to 2000 responses and have a globally representative dataset!

Magphi is v2.0.0! (github.com/milnus/Magphi) What it new? 1. Andrew has implemented tblastn, allowing amino acid seeds as input! 2. fasta and Gff outputs will by default be oriented to have the same strand and start site, for easier passing to alignment tools.

Please RT - if you're into pathogen genomics then check out this postdoc opportunity on a collaborative project with our team and @ESRNewZealand on #StrepA Three years for now, but an option for permanent upon successful completion 🧬🧫

We've been working on an update to the ska tool, which uses 'split k-mers' to align closely related populations of pathogens. It's just had it's first release and we'd welcome any testing or feedback github.com/bacpop/ska.rust

Very excited our paper is out today in The Lancet Microbe 🦠🧬📜 This was an amazing inter-disciplinary project where we found asymptomatic throat carriage of Strep A is a likely source of skin infections in remote tropical settings #StrepA #RHD #GAS #ARF doi.org/10.1016/S2666-…

Our work to find that the throat is an important reservoir for Strep A in areas with endemic skin infections. Interventions to reduce spread likely need to consider the throat. Full paper here: thelancet.com/journals/lanmi… And Guardian piece: theguardian.com/australia-news…

Can we use bacterial GWAS to inform treatment choices in in Staphylococcus aureus sepsis ? In our paper just published in Cell Reports we delve into bacterial heritability, lineage effects and adaptive mutations behind infection outcomes. Link here: 10.1016/j.celrep.2023.113069

We have a research position in 'Microbial Bioinformatics' available in our laboratory. Masters/PhD level applicants with bacterial genomics experience are encouraged to apply. Come and join us Doherty Institute UniMelb MDHS! Applications close 17 June 2024 jobs.unimelb.edu.au/caw/en/job/916…

With an ageing population, we should be wary of the clinical burden of pathogens such as SDSE. Timely review led by the talented Ouli Xie. More clinical information on SDSE disease is needed (watch this space....)
