In theory, IF the Padres did sign Realmuto, it makes the Fermin trade look more egregious than it did last season. Fermin is decent enough but making him a backup while trading two controllable starters for a team that desperately needs pitching would be a disaster.

I buy the Tatis Jr rumors partially because he’s the only giant contract that’s even remotely movable. Xander and Manny would be unlikely and Merrill’s deal is way too team friendly. That being said, trading Tatis would be unforgivable.
