As part of our Recognition and Rewards programme, we are proud to spotlight some outstanding work from students across Years 7 to 12 in science. Our students have demonstrated excellent curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong understanding of the scientific method.

Well done Harrison on achieving a new personal best and taking silver in the 100m at the North East track and field Championships. A fantastic achievement and a testament to all your hard work. Best of luck for the rest of the season — we’re cheering you on!

Big shoutout to Kiki B (U13 Player of the Year) and Mary M (U13 ETC Values Award) at the Teesside ETC Celebration Evening! From a squad of 19, only 2 awards were given. Both went to Boro Rangers players who’ve battled boys leagues from U8 to U13, climbing from Division 9 to 3.

Today, the Student Union brought something truly special to Post 16 — Culture Day! A vibrant celebration of diversity, style, and tradition filled the space with glam outfits and rich colours. Here’s a glimpse into the beauty of different cultures coming together.

Huge congrats to Ella A as Grangetown U14s win the ENG Youth Netball League Grand Final – a club first! And well done to Annabelle H (Y11) who helped the U16s finish 8th at the England Netball Nationals!

Another 25 determined Year 9 students successfully tackled their Bronze DofE expeditions this weekend. From navigating tricky routes to mastering camp life, they smashed it – and one group even treated themselves to pancakes, Nutella, and fresh strawberries for breakfast!

Last year, more than 1 in 2 students at Macmillan achieved at least 95% attendance! Meet your targets by being here every day, so “Get in There” and fulfil your potential.

At the end of last half term 6 of our Year 12 DofE Gold students completed their practice expedition. They hiked around Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Buttermere in some incredibly wet weather.

Kiki & Gabby have smashed it this season. From cup wins & a national semi with Macmillan U14, to an epic quadruple win with Boro Rangers JPL U14—beating top academy teams along the way! Well done girls.

Year 10 smashed their Silver DofE practice expedition in Ullswater! They braved wind, rain & sun while building navigation, teamwork & camp skills. Amazing effort & determination from all!

We’re thrilled to see the Bee orchids (Ophrys apifera) in full flower at the front of the academy! Native to the UK but under threat in some areas, these rare blooms have flourished thanks to reduced mowing and our commitment to biodiversity.

Work Experience Week starts 7th July. Placements need to be organised as soon as possible, so please continue to support your child in securing theirs. If you have any questions or need help, please contact Mrs Gettings. Let’s help our students make the most of this opportunity.

The academy welcomed Richard Petty from Oxford University earlier today.  Selected students had the opportunity to learn more about top universities and what it takes to get there. It was certainly an inspiring session!
