It is one year since we lost Erfan Faridmoayer, MD, brilliant surgical resident and cherished member of my lab. His passion for research and teaching lives on through the Erfan Academia, erfanacademia.com/en/ Forever remembered by Columbia Surgery and FerrariLab @Columbia

As someone who grew up in NASAs back yard and loves space and hearts, I think of this parallel all the time and even drafted a little commentary with this exact theme 🚀🔭 truly incredible feats that bring tears to the eyes sometimes

The Red Sox signed David Ortiz 22 years ago today to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract worth $1.25 million. The rest is history.

To improve outcomes for patients with heart valve disease, we need to understand how their valves behave without performing invasive procedures. That’s where simulation comes in – but building accurate models is difficult when critical details, like tissue properties or valve

Many powerful people don't understand what surgeons do beyond cutting and sewing, and they have a fundamental misunderstanding of where the difficulty and complexity lie within surgery. I guess we'll just see how the tweet ages. Perhaps I can determine if I'm "good" or not by

Said goodbye to my research time passion project. Got it from a salvage yard w/ low miles, in great condition otherwise. Had a blast part hunting, doing the work (suspension, subframe, body, thermostat), and giving it a new life! Excited for the next one, something even bigger!

Dr. Gilbert Tang U.S. FDA Edwards Lifesciences Approval based on EARLY TAVR? So we are now pulling the trigger & starting the clock (for durability of a valve, for which we don’t have long term follow-up) in patients without symptoms, at a younger age, based on a trial whose interpretation is highly controversial? 🤔

Annals of Surgery 1) Perhaps 17% is actually a good 'win' rate, so to speak. There isn't room in academia for all the graduating residents (or even half of them) to become university faculty. 2) Maybe it's time to give more bandwidth to optimizing the training for the other 83%.

Greatest chiefs I could have asked for in my new home 🥹🙏🏼 I’m so grateful to have them as role models. Sad to seem them leaving and going to miss them immensely, but they’re on to bigger and better!!
